FREDERICKSBURG FOOD!!!!

Heidy-Ho, Blogging Buddies!!

Okay.  This is the last of the "daily" posts!  Hope you haven't been overwhelmed!

As an FYI... it got darned cold here last night!  BRRR!  Must be time for our second season in Texas... "less hot"... vs the "hotter" season we have.

Okay.  Enough of that.  Let's just take a peek at some of the fabulous food we encountered (and devoured) on the Fredericksburg run.  If you aren't a fan of foodie-type pics, delete this now!

From first night's dinner (actually in Johnson City, Texas):

First morning in Fredericksburg:

A cheese/nut/fruit plate at one of the winery stops!

Okay.  Went to the Airport Diner for brunch... and got so interested in the planes coming/going, forgot to get pics of the food!!!  DOH!!

Met and chatted with the owner, Ed from Bulverde, TX.  Super-nice guy who told us to fly in to the airport there!

There was more lovely dining... but got wrapped up in the fun and food!  Did remember to catch final pics of our last morning's brunch.  So sad to leave.

A farewell Cranberry Mimosa...

Breakfast Chicken Pot Pie!!

Alrighty.  You saw the fun yesterday.  Today you see the food.  So great to have them at equal levels!!

Until next post...

FREDERICKSBURG FUN!!

Greetings, Blogging Buddies!!

Okay.  It is that time of year!  YAY!!  My TX BF and I tried to make a Fredericksburg run twice a year... once in April and once in October.  While we didn't manage every year, we are finally back on schedule.

This time, it became a foursome as my LA (Louisiana) BF and a very good friend of hers joined us!!  What a party!!  I was so happy to have my LA friend (whom I have known since early childhood!) and my TX BF (whom I have known 30+ years!) finally meet each other!  Such a hoot.

At any rate, just going to post some of the pictures here that were taken "on the road."  There will be another post that will be strictly food!!  Yes... we did eat like crazy!  Yum!!

LA took the following sunset shots as we left Johnson City and were heading to Fredericksburg for Night #1.

Since LA had not ever been to Fredericksburg, we actually spent a little more downtown time than we typically do.  Was really glad as we found a shop that had the most interesting work from a local artist who uses hand tools, etc., to make really fun stuff!!

Another spot we popped into had some interesting barstools!!

While doing one of our early morning "strolls", we came across a Century plant that had bloomed then died (typical).  The bloom on this one, however, had not just toppled over but had somehow managed to curl itself to the ground and the dead bloom remained in the air somewhat.  Have not seen that before!

There was a property nearby to where we stayed that had exotics.  Saw some deer-type pretty far in... maybe Springboks?  We ran across several Wild Turkeys when we passed the gate.

At any rate... food to come!!

Until next post...

A YARD IS MORE THAN THREE FEET!

Heidy-Ho, Blogging Buddies!!

Okay.  I did warn you there was a lot coming!  (You can always skip one of the posts and read it later... when I am back to not posting for too long!)

So... things that had not been unpacked for many years began finding their way out of the boxes.  One group was purchased from Sunset Canyon Pottery on the way to Dripping Springs from Austin.  The artist is Haydn Larson and I have all manner of items he did.  Just really enjoyed his work.  Have multiple pots, a "Booted Buddha", a wonderful gargoyle... just lots of things that make me smile when I see them.  I was thrilled to get all of the "hangers" out again.  The ones with "wings" at the upper right are "Garden Singers."  The ones with the long curling beards at the bottom are "Storytellers."  Each beard bottom can hold a votive candle.  There are a few that are just random.  The metal items are not his.  At any rate... here they are:

Okay.  Being born and bred in Louisiana, I do have an affinity for 'gators!  I have a few that are clearly made to be such... but occasionally I can "see" a 'gator somewhere it isn't quite so clear.  Do you see him?

I think I have posted a lot of the bird feeders we keep out year-round.  When it is hummingbird time, I try to change out the sugar-water every third day.  It was rather amusing when I approached one of the feeders and didn't immediately know what I was seeing... until I got closer.  Had to laugh!!
Huh?  Is there a leaf on the hook?
Uh.  NO!  LOL!!  Not sure what it thought it might catch at that location?  But was pretty darned funny!

Alrighty!!  I did a post in the Spring on the new beds I had set up.  At that time, the plants were all new.  I have added a couple of new plants since then and the originals have had a chance to grow over the summer.  See the first post here if you want to see the progress.
 Back-to-Back 'Gators.
Click on this one to see the pink Turk's Cap flowers in center.
Click on this one to see "Nessie" and its buddy to the left that is reading "The Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King.

So there you have it.  Far more than three feet!!  A yard can just be fun!

Until next post...

WHAT'S IN A WALK?

Greetings, Blogging Pals!!

Okay.  So, as I try to catch up with the photos I have been taking, this post will be of things I have seen while walking.  We try to walk every day (weather permitting) in one of the local parks.  Part of our walk includes walking along the edge of Lake Waco where we see all manner of things, especially water birds.  At any rate... this post will just be a bunch of photos with brief explanations.  Hope you can enjoy!

Bunch of little gourds started flowering and growing a while back.  This is the current state.  Not sure how large they will get but will monitor.

Unfortunately, my phone doesn't take long-distance pics well... but this is an Osprey (above & below) that hangs around the lake.  We have seen it dining... likely on a fish it caught.

Some interesting wildflowers that are Fall bloomers as these were taken in September and October.

This scene above was cause for a joke that we needed to "keep moving!"  Didn't want to be mistaken for a meal!!  Found a tree where a lot of them lit a little later in the walk.  Kept moving!!!

Alrighty!!  That's a little bit of a walk in the park and what's in it!  Lots of other things but didn't want to get ridiculous.  Probably more in your future as seasons change.

Until next post...

MAYBORN MUSEUM - WACO

Heidy-Ho, Blogging Buddies!!

As always (this is becoming quite the habit, isn't it?), I apologize for the delay between posts.  Things have been happening and I have a lot of pics and things to share... so you may be inundated for a few days!

Okay.  Let's start with an interesting trip to the Mayborn Museum here in Waco.  Had not been previously but my BF and her granddaughter had.  They came up to Waco from Austin/Georgetown for a day and we headed to the museum which the granddaughter absolutely loved!  I could see why.  Lots of interesting things to see plus a lot of electronic "quizzes" for kids to do in several of the rooms.

So... mostly photos with a few comments.  I wish you could actually get the perspective regarding size of a couple of the items.  Tried to get people in a few photos in order to help with that!

We made it!!  Front of museum.

First room we entered had a lot of fossils.

Mastodon skull and tusks.

Ostrich-like ancient bird skeleton.

Humpback whale skull with an 8-year old for scale!!!

Sorry.  Didn't get the names of everything I saw!  This was hanging from the ceiling and is clearly a water animal chasing dinner!

Fossil of a substantial turtle!!  Full-grown adult for scale.

Switching gears...

Very interesting room full of cave items and creatures (not alive!).  Definitely a fun place.

An "early Texas" room with information on the areas covered by Texas.

More of "early Texas" with one of the electronic items for the kids in the center (grey).

Early Plains of Texas with Native American shelter and bison.

Early Plains of Texas with Settler shelter.

There were TONS of other things to photograph but it was just so much fun wandering around and looking... well, I missed some shots.  So sue me!  LOL!

At any rate, if you have opportunities to go to museums, especially those with a diverse collection of items, GO!  Take the young'uns.  Show them things they will never see elsewhere.

Until next post...
